To be considered a member of 240sx.org, the 240sx Car Club of America, you must understand a few things.

a) We do not charge a single dime for any information.  It is all free information that is discussed on our bulletin boards and mailing list, and other sources of information crammed all together to make this page.

b) To be a "member" we just ask that you participate, either from a) the bulletin board, b) the mailing list (shown below), its very extreme and might be too much for you, c) appearing at some of the meets, or d)  just pitch in on sharing information somehow, maybe an article for the site or something.

c) The profiles page I made is for members to "be available" for other members.  Such as if your really interested in Eibach Springs and you go to the profile page and type in eibach, you will get a list of people that have eibach springs that you can them email them your question.  The profiles page is very usefull.  You can type in your state (abbr) and get a list of everyone registered in the state.  For instance, type in CA or FL and see what it comes up with.  You can also search by the person's name or email address too.  I only request that if you enter in a new profile for yourself, include your first and last name, and an email address that anyone can contact you at, otherwise there is no point in entering a new profile.

d) The Faq - Frequently Asked Questions page is a database of the most FAQ our members have, please check this out before you post something to the bulletin board or mailing list.  If you wanted to add a FAQ, make sure you have the resolution along with it.

e) That's about it as far as a brief description of what we do.   Check out people in your area and go to a 240 meet sometime, you'll be surprised what a great group of people we have.  It is never just a car event, its just a group of friends grouping up and having a blast.

Joining the mailing list

The mailing list is ran by Dave Alexander, he deserves alot of credit for doing it.  He also accepts donations for keeping that mail server up and running.  Email him your thoughts and comments, or donation information [email protected]

First things first - understanding the two different types of lists

We have two mailing lists -

1) 240-TECH - tech list (much less volume, much less off topic info).  This list is strictly for technical questions, it is moderated by Dave on what goes on and what doesn't.

2) 240-CHAT - chat list (major volume, all topics accepted).  On this list you will find any topic at all, not moderated, and free spoken.  You will see technical questions on this list also, but many more different topics.

Now decide which list you would like to be on, YES - you can be on both.

If, after attempting the above, you are still having difficulty, e-mail Dave directly ([email protected]).

First please understand that the mailing lists have so many emails sometimes that most people have a tendancy to hit the delete key often when skimming through the list....  So basically, SUBJECTS ARE EXTREAMLY IMPORTANT!

To make a proper subject, DO NOT PUT SUBJECTS LIKE:
"A question" or "I wonder...." or "240sx" or "got an idea"

You need to be as SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE!! Such as:
Put the topic in between < > and then even more specific next to it.....
"<TURBO> Blow off valve" or "<WEIRD NOISE> Clicking in the rear" or "<OIL> Whats best?" or "<NOS> Anyone try NOS Express" or "<BRAKES> Will Skylines Work?"

Now that this is understood... how do I post?

Its just like sending a message to anyone else, just for the To: field, put:

[email protected] for the tech list and nothing but techy questions

[email protected] for the chat list, all questions and not moderated.

240SX Owners' Mailing List FAQ
Last updated 9/24/98
This FAQ is *the* definitive informational source on the 240SX Owner's Mailing List.   This page supersedes any previous information or website.  This FAQ covers only the list itself, not the information contained therein.

SECTIONS:
What is the 240SX Owners' Mailing List?
What types of posts are allowed?
What types of posts are tolerated in moderate amounts?
What types of posts are expressly forbidden?
How do I get myself flamed by the list members?
How do I get myself removed from the list and banned from ever subscribing again?

Q:  What is the 240SX Owners' Mailing List?
A:  The 240SX Owners' Mailing list was formed in early 1997 by Dave Alexander after he purchased a 1992 240SX SE.  He was amazed that for a car of it's potential, it was basically ignored by the aftermarket and on the web.  He created the list with the purpose of sharing information with other 240SX owners and to promote the 240SX.   Currently, the 240SX Owners' Mailing List has close to 500 members worldwide.  The 240SX Owners' Mailing List is a place to join a large group of fellow 240SX owners to discuss the car, it's variations, modifications, and maintenence.

Q:  What types of posts are allowed?
A:  Keeping with the intial purpose for the creation of the mailing list, we suggest that the following be topics on the mailing list:

Q: What types of posts are tolerated in moderate amounts?
A:  As most list members have lives outside of reading list mail, it is suggested that off-topic messages be kept to an absolute minimum.  Off-topic messages include:

Q: What types of posts are expressly forbidden?
A:  There are certain types of posts which serve absolutely no purpose on the 240SX Owners' Mailing List.  These include:

Q:  How do I get myself flamed by the list members?
A:  This is a question that is very rarely asked, yet frequently answered.  If getting flamed is your life goal, try out the following:

Just in case you hadn't guessed, these are *bad* things.  Try to avoid them.

Q:  How do I get myself removed from the list and banned from ever subscribing again?
A:  Start by reading the "How do I get myself flamed" Q and A.  Repeat several of those items over and over again.  Insult the list owner and/or his family.  Continue dead threads that have been specifically deemed dead by the list owner.   Ignore list owner/moderator directives.  Send prohibited postings (see above) to the list.

You probably get the idea by this point...

If this FAQ did not answer your questions, direct them to the list owner, Dave Alexander.
